Really interesting place to visit. The tour stalls out by the spring shed but the history is really interesting. Definitely worth the money to take a look around, there is a path to go out and explore along with other trails in the park as well.
Been here twice. Happy with our tent stay. Will return
Remember when you were a kid and you went over to a friends house to play that brand new fight video game he got. Then he hands you the controller and you look down to realize he's given you a cheap knock off brand mad catz. The disappointment you felt when you realize you'd been cheated and were about to be readily crushed. Your hopes of all fun and excitement, drowned out like a kid who just got sugar free cake. Well that is the feeling when you pull up to the desert of Maine and see a $12.50 per person charge just to see it.
I arrived around 7pm to book for a tent spot. The owner was nice and easy to talk to. Hot shower, laundry and clean bathrooms were available. The desert was marked easily for a tour or hiking. Reason for 4* because my spot were down a deep hill and my car almost got stuck trying to park. Also the cost for 1 person tent 1 night was $31.61. I think $20 to $25 would be more reasonable.
Very interesting to actually see a desert. Smaller than I imagined but the surrounding forest is moving slowly back in! To see an example of poor land management now loosing to nature is quite a sight to behold. It rained while I was there but I still enjoyed the visit.
